The Mayor's Youth Council is comprised of approximately 10 high school juniors, one chosen from each high school. The council’s purpose is to weigh in on community issues. MYC enables local officials to be more representative of the community as a whole and improve services that directly affect young people.

Now Accepting Applications for the Class of 2028

Requirements:

  • Must be entering junior year in 2026-2027 (Graduating Class of 2028).
  • Attend school within the corporate city limits of Jackson, TN.
  • Have a grade point average of at least 2.5.
  • Have a passion for serving their community.
  • Have the desire to learn about city government and be a leader among Jackson youth.

How to Apply:

  • Complete the online application
  •  Submit the Two Letters of Recommendation from adults you have worked with within school or non-school activities (e.g. teacher, coach, counselor, supervisor, etc.) Letter writers must include their names, phone numbers, and email address in the letters. Persons providing these references are to be non-related to applicants.

The 2021 Mayor's Youth Council and Keep Jackson Beautiful offers the "Trash 4 Cash" program where groups can up $100.00/mile of street by reducing litter in our city.

The mission of this program is to promote Public Environmental Awareness by Reducing Litter, Encouraging Recycling Efforts, and continuing to create a unique sense of pride in our city. This program is designed for non-profit groups such as schools, churches, civic groups and other community organization groups.
