The Jackson Police Department has had a SWAT Team since 1982
The mission statement of the SWAT Team is to successfully resolve all high risk situations and/or critical incidents in a manner which reduces the chance of violence, injury, and/or death based on the Priorities of Life.
The team is currently comprised of a Lieutenant, (team commander) a Sergeant, (Executive Officer/second in command) and 10 other members which have collateral duties within the department.
The team averages 90-100 operations per year
SWAT is commanded by Lt. Shane Beaver
