The primary function of the Traffic Safety Unit is to keep roadways as safe as possible for all motorists. This is achieved through the enforcement of state and municipal traffic laws. The ultimate goal is the saving of lives and reduction of traffic crashes. Officers work closely with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) and participate in crash reduction initiatives. Officers assigned to the unit investigate traffic and parking related complaints throughout the city. The unit also assists the public with the coordination of events throughout the city which may require traffic related solutions.
