Jackson Animal Care Center Reaches Save Rate of 96%

Kenneth Cummings, Communications Director

In 2020, the Jackson Animal Care Center took in 437 cats and 462 dogs which is an increase of 66% from 2019. They were also able to adopt 453 cats and 412 dogs which is a 68% increase from 2019. This brings the total number of adopted animals to 865 in 2020. The average live release rate for the Jackson Animal Care Center is 96%.

"The Live Release Rate is the percentage of animals admitted to the shelter that are released from the shelter via adoption, rescue transfer, owner reclaim, etc," said Jackson Animal Care Center Director Whitney Owen. "Essentially, it's the ratio of animals that are not euthanized for behavioral or medical reasons."

In addition, the center has provided spay/neuter services to 1,097 animals in our community. With the spay/neuter assistance program, Madison County residents can get a $60 discount towards the spay/neuter of a cat and $75 for a dog. Spay/Neuter often lowers the risk of cancer in pets, stops pet overpopulation, reduces aggression in pets, increases pet life expectancy, decreases roaming in pets and reduces spaying and marking.

The Jackson Animal Care Center has also made significant strides with awareness and digital outreach by increasing their potential audience and exposure on social media by more than 400% from 2019. View some of the shelter’s adoptable pets below.
