City of Jackson, JPD, and JMCSS Announce Enhanced Security Partnership for 2026 Graduation Season

Jackson, Tenn. – In anticipation of the upcoming 2026 graduation ceremonies, the City of Jackson, the Jackson Police Department (JPD), and the Jackson-Madison County School System (JMCSS) have announced a unified effort to strengthen security protocols. This collaboration aims to ensure a safe and celebratory environment for students, educators, and families as they honor the achievements of this year’s graduates.
Proactive Safety Measures
Following recent regional events in West Tennessee that have raised community concerns, JMCSS school leadership, including JMCSS security, along with JPD, have conducted comprehensive reviews of safety measures for all upcoming ceremonies at Oman Arena. Students, residents, and attendees can expect an increased law enforcement presence at graduation sites.
This strategic deployment involves a coordinated effort between JMCSS Security, Madison County (TN) Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) School Resource Officers, JPD personnel, and local first responders. The heightened visibility is intended to maintain order and allow the focus of these events to remain strictly on student milestones and family celebrations.
Collaborative Leadership
"Ensuring the safety of our students and their families during these milestone moments is our highest priority," said Mayor Scott Conger. "Through this partnership between JPD and JMCSS, we are committed to providing a secure environment. We appreciate the proactive leadership within our school system and the dedication of our first responders who work behind the scenes to protect our community."
“As a reminder, we will enforce clear bags or no bags for all graduation ceremonies. This helps our security teams work efficiently and ensures a smooth entry process for families and guests,” said JMCSS Superintendent Dr. Marlon King. “We ask everyone to plan, follow the guidelines, and help us maintain a safe environment for our seniors. Our law enforcement partners are doing their job. Our schools are doing their job. And we're asking the community to join us in these efforts. If you see something, say something—not only for our schools, but for our community as a whole. Your awareness and willingness to speak up help keep our events and neighborhoods safe.”
"Our foundational pillars at the Jackson Police Department are built on community and collaboration, and there is no greater priority for us than the safety of our students and families," said Police Chief Thom Corley. "By integrating our resources with JMCSS Security, and School Resource Officers from the Madison County Sheriff's Office, we are creating multiple layers of protection across the commencement site. This partnership allows our officers and school security teams to work as one unit, ensuring that our graduation ceremonies remain the joyous, secure milestones that our students have worked so hard to achieve."
Community Vigilance
The City and its partners encourage all attendees to remain alert and observant during graduation festivities. Reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement or school officials is a vital part of maintaining a secure atmosphere for everyone involved.
By working together, the City of Jackson, JPD, JMCSS, and MCSO aim to ensure that the 2026 graduation season is defined by pride, joy, and the safe celebration of academic success
