Stray Animal Protocol
All stray animals brought in by Animal Control Officers or private individuals are photographed and posted on the day of intake. They are held for a legally mandated minimum of three (3) days if the animal is not wearing identification, or five (5) days if they are wearing identification before disposition. To reclaim an animal you must be able to prove ownership and pay the reclamation fees listed below. After 5 business days the animal legally belongs to the Jackson Animal Care Center and will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated. At that point, an adoption application may be required and the full adoption fee of $120/dog or $80/cat must be paid. All animals will be posted for 7 days from date of intake. Animals can be reclaimed during regular operating hours Monday through Saturday. We are closed on Sundays.
