Stormwater Management
The City of Jackson currently operates under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II General Permit for Discharges for small municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s). This permit is issued by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). The permit allows the municipality to discharge stormwater runoff from municipal drainage systems into the waters of Tennessee.
The permit requires the City of Jackson to develop and implement a Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) that consists of six program elements called minimum control measures. These measures consist of a set of programs to manage the quality of stormwater runoff from our storm sewer systems.
MS4 Permit Minimum Control Measures:
- Public Education and Outreach
- Public Involvement and Participation
- Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
- Construction Site Stormwater Runoff Controls
- Permanent Stormwater Management in New Development and Re-Development
- Pollution Prevention and Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations
Our mission is to protect and maintain water quality within the City of Jackson for the health, safety, and general welfare of our residents and future generations to come.
